Shred Day 5

Today was one of those days that I would have typically skipped the DVD. We were gone pretty much all day. Since Dan had the day off we head to Totter's Otterville in Ft. Thomas, KY and then to Dan's softball game later that evening and out to a trip to the Bethel Dairy Barn after the game. I would have typically told myself "Today was busy. You don't have to exercise." "Or you walked a lot today, you can skip it." But like Jillian in the DVD says, just taking the stairs is not enough. I have to raise my heart rate, sweat and feel like I've put effort into my workout for it to count.

I have often wished for a career or life that incorporated physical activity naturally. Do you know what I mean? Like, if I lived in a town where I could walk to the places I need to visit. Or job where walking, sweating, exerting energy was a part of the job description. Then I wouldn't need to schedule workouts into the day. I suppose with the inventions of things we take for granted, Americans have become more and more sedentary. On the flip side, if I don't have to light a fire to cook dinner or wash clothes by hand or collect eggs before I cook them I should have time for a workout each day, right?

Until tomorrow....keep working out and let me know what your doing to get in the shape you dream of.

Weight: I am not going to weigh myself for about a week....Hopefully at that time I'll be please! ;)

Feelings: Today was so much easier. I kept checking my moves to make sure I was doing them correctly and not getting lazy with my form. I think I was doing things correctly!? Tomorrow I will continue to check my form and increase my range of motion. I don't feel nearly as shaky as I did on days 1, 2 and 3.

  1. Today was day 5 of the Shred for Matt and I. I thought the push ups and some of the other exercises were easier...yay for that! I remember feeling a difference the first time I did the DVD at this point.
Something I do as I'm achieving my dream "shape" is focus on the fact that exercise is not just about decreasing the number on the scale or looking better in my clothes. We are getting to the age (sadly!) where it's also about health and being in great condition so we can keep up with our kids and be around for them for a very long time! I think if we look at this time of the day not as torture or as something we have to get over with but as "Me" time then it makes it a bit easier to get started. It's a time to focus on physical health...we put time into our spiritual, emotional, social health pretty much each and every day so why not spend 20 min focusing on physical health too?
Okay, just what I was thinking about earlier today...I once saw Cara on FB put up a status that said something like it took her 30 years to realize that working out is not just about the number on the scale. I very much agree!
